Why Not Just Try to Get As Close to "21" as Possible?
There are several reasons why playing with the objective of getting as close to "21" as possible is a BAD idea.

- Sometimes the Dealer has a "weak" hand. Why take the risk of "busting" trying to get "close to 21?"
- How close to "21" is close enough? Say you have a "16" against a dealer's "10." Just how close to "21"do you need to be?
- How about if I just play like the Dealer trying to get to "21"? That's a TERRIBLE idea! If you play Blackjack like the dealer does you'll be at an 8% DISADVANTAGE! Compare that with around a .5% disadvantage by learning Basic Strategy.
A Blackjack Dealer's Advice For Beginners
- Learn Basic Strategy PERFECTLY. Play it CONSISTENTLY.
- PRACTICE before you wager real money!
- FLAT BET the table minimum (i.e. don't vary your wager at all) when you first start playing with real money.
- Learn Betting Strategies. Limit your play to 100 hands, win or lose. IF you're up, quit early!
- Invest in Easy Money Blackjack. It's the same cost as what you "buy-in" for at the Blackjack table or less!
